SALLY Available for Foster or Foster to Adoption FAST FACTS10-Months-Old, 38 Pounds, Female Shepherd MixSweet, Gentle, Timid, Loving, Deprived of Social InteractionLow EnergyPeople Friendly (kids >12 years)Dog FriendlyWorking on Potty TrainingCrate-TrainedTraining Required My name is Sally, and I’m looking for a patient and understanding person/family to love me and help me blossom into the terrific dog I’m meant to be. Until a few weeks ago, I’d never known any human kindness. I spent my puppyhood living in a rickety old shed in a field in Devine, TX, with another homeless dog as my only company. Animal control got word of our plight and took us to an overcrowded shelter, where I was rescued by CARE and brought to Skokie. Talk about culture shock! I was frightened of everything—cars; outside noises; other dogs; and even the volunteers, who did everything they could to make me comfortable. As the days passed, I slowly started to feel safer, coming out of my kennel without struggling and even going on group dog walks. Initially, I seemed to prefer females, but then I got to know some of the male volunteers. One man took me into a quiet room, put a tasty treat on the floor, and then waited while I got up the nerve to go over and pick it up and eat it. He repeated that a few times then held the treat in his hand, and I took it! From there I’ve progressed to playing with soft toys and stealing volunteers’ hats and gloves when we come in from walks, sitting on them so they can’t leave. I’ve even had a canine massage to calm and relax me and let me know how wonderful the human touch is. In other words, I’m learning how to trust andbond with people. I’ve got a long way to go, and I hope that’s where you’ll come in. I’m searching for a low-key adult home (or one with older children, as young kiddos might be overwhelming right now). If you already have a laid-back pooch in your house who could be my mentor, that would be an extra bonus. Once I’ve adjusted to family life, I’ll need you to sign us up for training classes, so that I learn all the skills every great dog should know. In return for your effort, I promise you a lifetime of love, loyalty, and joy.I hope you’ll fill out an application and come and meet me very soon! I will be spayed and microchipped soon and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. Adoption Process
Our adoption process has evolved from many years of experience. The goal of our adoption counselors is to make a good match between animal and family. We get to know each cat or dog's unique personality and different needs. If a specific dog, for example, has large amounts of energy and needs lots of space to run, it is unlikely that he would meet the needs of a person who works long hours and would be unable to exercise the dog. It would be a mismatch that would be bad for dog and human alike. Our adoption counselors look forward to working with you to help you find the right pet for your home.
