Pal's Place would love to introduce you to one of our newest rescues, Ziggy, a little pint-sized powerhouse of love, energy, curiosity, and affection! Zig is an American Cocker Spaniel, estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old, weighing 17 pounds. He found his way to Pal's Place from an overcrowded animal control facility in Kentucky. He arrived at animal control in rough shape, his coat so terribly matted he had to be completely shaved down and a very thin 10 pounds. We suspect he may have come from a puppy mill or neglectful backyard breeder. Despite a rough start in life, Ziggy remains a happy, enthusiastic, friendly little fella with a wonderful, sunny, merry, and bright disposition! True to his Cocker heritage, he knows no strangers and greets every human and canine he crosses paths with as a long-lost friend. Being a young Spaniel, he's energetic, playful, curious, a bit mischievous, and busy, busy! He'll make a fantastic companion for a family as active, curious, and fun-loving as he is. Ziggy especially loves children and is an ideal playmate for them. Ziggy also LOVES other dogs. He is excitable when meeting new canine friends and can be a bit overwhelming in his eagerness and persistence to play, which some dogs do not always appreciate. He'll make a great companion for another dog with a similar energy level and playfulness but may be too much for an older or more mellow dog. Ziggy is working on his crate training and housebreaking and does well when kept on a regular schedule. He can be vocal at times, especially when crated or left alone. Because of this, we feel he's not particularly well-suited to apartment or condo living and would do better in a single-family home. Zigs will make a phenomenal companion for any Cocker Spaniel lover, and he's anxious and excited to meet his new family. Submit your application today! Ziggy is vaccinated, microchipped, and scheduled to be neutered in mid-February. Ziggy is available for adoption with a neuter contract before his surgery so he can begin adjusting to his forever home, provided his adopters agree to bring him to our partner veterinary clinic for his procedure (the cost of which is covered by the rescue) Because of this, we are only considering local adoption to the Chicagoland area and suburbs for him at this time. His adoption fee of $375 helps cover his neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and any other medical expenses necessary to prepare him for adoption. He is being fostered on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been received and approved. For more info or an application, please email [email protected] or visit palsplacerescue.org. Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for any reason. Please do not submit an adoption application unless you are ready to meet and welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. Adoption applications and correspondence from the rescue may end up in your spam or junk folder. If you are waiting for our reply, please check those folders regularly, and if it has been 48 hours without a reply, please follow up with an email to ensure your application was received. •Ziggy's adoption fee is $375. This fee covers any necessary medical care to prepare him for adoption. Pal's Place relies solely on adoption fees and donations to care for the animals in our rescue. Your donation also helps save other dogs like Ziggy from euthanasia. • Please email [email protected] for an adoption application, including the dog's name in the subject line. Please check your spam/ or junk folder; sometimes, the applications end up there! We are a volunteer-run organization and do our best to respond to all inquiries within 24-48 hours.
Adoption Process
The majority of our dogs are rescued from Hazard County, Kentucky. After rescue, the dogs are placed into foster homes in Chicago. Once in fosters, our dogs are fully vetted. This includes age-appropriate vaccines, microchips, parasite control and testing, heartworm testing and treatment if ncessary and any other care needed prior to adoption. All dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered before placement. Our adoption fees for senior dogs (8+) start at $175, our fee for adult dogs is $375 and our fee for puppies 6 months or younger is $475. An application is required to be considered for adoption and an adoption contract is signed at the time of adoption including a clause that any dog must be returned to Pal's Place for placement at any point if the adopter is unable to care for the dog.
