Dakota Dachshund Rescue

Diane started doing fostering at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and then Pet Pals for Life. She had a passion for dachshunds. We noticed that the Sioux Falls area had a need for a dachshund rescue so her and I (Doug) started DDR. The response and need was much greater than we anticipated.

Bernard is not in any pain, he is a happy pup.Dec 1 2024 update Little Mr Bernard   Quite an interesting little guy, fun loving almost 5 months old puppy but boy is he ever perplexing medically.   Bernard was born with a parasitic twin coming out of his backside. He has two rumps, four legs, two anuses, two penises as well as urine coming out of his umbilical area. It was discovered he has one kidney.   He has had an ultrasound, X-rays, as well as a CT scan.   His parasitic feet drag and became bloody and infected and he chews on them so he couldn't be vaccinated until they cleared up so of course he broke with Parvo   one step forward in diagnosing him but 10 steps back breaking with Parvo   His parasitic twin's feet have to stay wrapped all the time now.   The parasitic twin's pelvis is tilted in Bernard's normal pelvis so something has to be done for him so he can live a normal life..... lots to comprehend isn't it   Bernard is traveling to UMN Veterinary Medical Center tomorrow for evaluation to see if their Orthopedic/Soft Tissue Surgical team can safely remove his parasitic twin.   Bernard's local medical bills have been between $3,000 already   Can you help? Today with Giving Tuesday's matching funds your donation will double.   Every $1 becomes $2   Every $5 becomes $10   Every $10 becomes $20   Every $100 becomes $200   Donate on this post   Or use the PayPal button on the dakotadachshundrescue.org website   Or Venmo Dakota Dachshund Rescue   Or mail a check to:   Dakota Dachshund Rescue   7505 E Mystic Drive   Sioux Falls SD 57110   All methods of donating count toward Matching Funds   Bernard needs all of us!   Have someone that is hard to buy Christmas gifts for? Donate in their name as a Christmas gift!     Hi! I'm Bernard. I have some complex medical stuff going on and need to be seen by some specialists. I have a parasitic twin and some complicated anatomy. While the veterinarians are figuring out some of my complex anatomy can you help support a little guy like me?I am now 9 months old, my adoption fee is $400 plus sales tax $18= $418   My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter, dental if needed and microchipping.

Adoption Process
Usually we are contacted by a SD shelter about a dachshund that is not doing well (nipping etc.) and that they are going to be put down. We take them in get them vetted and then place them up for adoption after they have been evaluated. We also take calls from folks who have called their local shelter about there dachshund that may have started nipping at small children etc and are told the dog would be put down. We also take calls from other rescues about breeder dogs.
