Emmet County Animal Shelter

We live in a primarily rural area with a 50% poverty level and 40% non Caucasian/transient population. Due to the farmer mentality or disposable mentality of our area many pets find them selves homeless due to no fault of their own. We take in animals that are neglected, abandon, injured or just unwanted. We rehabilitate them and then re-home them through our adoption process. We have been solely foster based since 2010 and are currently building our new facility. We do it all with volunteers and we do it because we love it! The animals deserve better and we try our best to offer them that by doing what we can, when we can, the best we can, with what we have and with all our heart.

Meet Cat

***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** When this little senior lady came to us along with Pedro from a hoarding situation we were told her name Cat.  That's pretty cute and we call her Cat the dog. She is looking for a human companion. Someone who is home quite a bit and likes to snuggle. As you can see in her photos, Cat is blind.  She is very affectionate and pretty calm overall but she can get spooked by other animals.  She has done well in her foster home and while she seems to have beef with one of the male resident dogs being in her business she is fine with the female resident dog and with her friend Pedro. She likes to bark at cats occasionally but not all the time. Her blindness will need some patience but she learns her space and maps pretty well. At first, she follows behind you, then she will lead when she gets comfortable. She likes men and women. She would love to be a pampered princess. She jumps up on couches and can get on the bed with a doggie step. She is a snuggler at night and prefers under the blankets. She loves stuffies and enjoys a good chew stick but generally Cat is very quiet and gentle. Cat just recently had a dental and she is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200.00

Adoption Process
application, adoption fees for dogs/puppies start at $150-$300. Cats/kittens are free will offering adoptions. Contracts for adoptions must be signed. All animals (unless too young) are altered prior to adoption. If not altered a deposit is paid and given back plus a rebate after the alteration has been performed.
