Meet Doc

If you're looking for a great companion that is a few years past all the "puppy antics" and has settled into his prime adulthood with several great years left to enjoy .....then check out our big guy Doc!   Doc was transferred to Safe Haven from the Cedar Rapids animal shelter on November 3rd, because they were overflowing with great dogs, and we happened to have space available. Doc's story won our hearts immediately  - he is an "older" dog that was surrendered by his owner after spending time living in her car with her and another dog.  It is clear that Doc has known love, and still has so much unconditional love to return.  Doc also hasn't missed too many meals over the years, and came into the shelter originally weighing 93 pounds.  Over the course of his three months at the Cedar Rapids they noticied Doc can be protective of his food and food dish, and would need to be fed separately from other pets in his forever home.  They were however able to help Doc lose 10 pounds, so he is on the right track to get down to a healthier weight....hopefully another 10 or 15 pounds off and he will look and feel like a brand new dog!   Doc did also come into the shelter in Cedar Rapids with an ear infection that had to be treated a couple different times, hopefully with regular ear cleaning now this won't be a chronic issue for him, but defintiely something to keep an eye on.  Doc also has a lipoma (benign fatty tumor) on his belly - which is fairly common on older, overweight Labrador Retrievers, that shoudln't cause any issues and just need to be monitored for any changes as time goes on. Doc also just had a dental done last month - where a fractured tooth was removed and all his other teeth were polished, so he has a brand new shiny smile that we just love!   Interested in adopting this pet?
