Gus is a sad 65 lbs. dog from Kentucky. He is a rear end tripod. He does ok getting around but is not a walker. He is probably about 4-6 yrs. old. He has had a dental and he had some teeth removed. Other than that he seems to be really healthy. He won’t be a family dog as children would be too hard on his back. He stands about 24 inches at the shoulder. He has a nice personality and isn’t too demanding. An older couple or single older adult would be an ideal home for him. He does well with a chain link fence so he can run as he pleases. He is crate and house trained. He has a dog bed but likes to sleep wherever he decides to rest his head. The only thing bad about him is he is not cat friendly at all. Some big dogs also will create a problem for him but not always. He makes a good faithful companion to anyone who stay home a lot, or he loves to go for car rides. He is really a good pal riding shot gun. His brindle coat is hard to beat. He is a dark brown and very handsome. Just ask him he will tell you.
Adoption Process
All potential adopters must complete an adoption application which includes veterinary records for any current or past pets; adopters go through an interview process and a home visit. Once those steps are approved, the potential adopter can meet available dogs that fit the criteria and are a good match between family, home, and dog. An adoption contract is signed with the stipulation that RCBR can do a follow up visit and remove the dog from the home if any part of the contract is breached. Dogs can only be adopted once spay/neuter or other medical conditions requiring treatment are completed. An additional training contract is signed for any dog needing further training. If the adoptive family cannot keep the dog for the long term, the dog must be returned to RCBR. RCBR must be notified if family is planning to euthanize dog due to illness and/or old age or unknown behavior issues and can then elect to take back the dog.
