WILLOW has had a rough life in just her first three years. Bought by a young adult from a backyard breeder, she was quickly rehomed when the parents said no way. In her new home, Willow was thrown outside, never received vetting until a local rescue group became concerned and offered to help, and was starved because the family 'forgot' to feed her. TEMPERAMENTWILLOW overall has a sweet, people friendly temperament. She does have true German Shepherd Traits, however, so sometimes appears to want to be protective around tentative handlers. Willow's adopters will need to be experienced German Shepherd owners, who can project the leadership that Willow needs to relax and just enjoy her environment. She is smart, eager to learn, loving and very playful. She loves the swimming pool in the play yard, playing with balls and frisbees, going for car rides, and long walks with her handlers. Willow has been in long-term boarding under MOGS' care, due to a lack of open foster homes. Because of this, we are not able to provide in-home behavioral details, other than from two brief overnight stays when she attended events. She enjoys just chillin' with handlers for the most part, but can be very playful when outside in the backyard. She prefers to eat in her kennel, as she doesn't like other animals around her food. She appears to be mostly housebroken, but has had at least one accident, so needs more work on that skill. She does tend to pull on her leash, but is improving. OTHER ANIMALSWillow would likely prefer to be an only pet, but has shown she can be integrated with some dogs, with very slow, measured and careful introductions. She does not like other dogs rushing up in her face, and will growl and back to warn them to stop. During walks with voliunteers, she is very able to walk past other dogs out in public with no issues. Willow does have a high prey drive, so cannot be in a home with cats or other small animals. PEOPLEWillow loves most people that she meets. She has been to a couple of public events, and interacted well with people of all ages and sizes. However, due to protective instincts, will require any children in the home to be 16+MEDICAL Willow is up-to-date on all vaccinations, has a current Rabies tag, is microchipped and has been spayed. Willow has no known health issues. If you're looking for a gorgeous, goofy, loving German Shepherd who has good energy,WILLOW may be your ideal family member! WILLOW'S ADOPTION FEE: $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.INTERESTED IN ADOPTING WILLOW?Complete an Adoption Application Now!
