Smart, cuddly, playful, and just the right amount of independence, Rutabaga is ready to join your family. This 16 pound, two and a half month old Shepherd mix is doing well with her basic commands and only needs someone willing to continue her training. She is a courageous pup who loves to explore new things and places. She’ll go it alone if needs be, but is glad to have a puppy companion. The first out the door every morning and the first to jump in your lap every night. Rutabaga isn’t going to be mistaken for a velcro dog, but you’d be hard pressed to find a more loyal pup. Good with kids, other dogs of all sizes, cats, as well as being soft and cuddly, why wouldn’t you want Rutabaga as part of your family?
Adoption Process
Applicants must fill out an application at www.adoptapitrescue.org/apply. We screen all applications, with approved applicants passing a vet and landlord check. All pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and on year-round heartworm preventative. Non-homeowners must have permission from their landlord to have a dog. Once approved, we schedule a home visit, where an adoption representative takes the dog to the adopter's home to see if the dog is a good fit for the family and other pets, as well as verify the home is a safe environment for the dog. If everyone feels the dog is a good fit, a contract is signed, adoption fee is paid, and the family takes possession of the dog, unless other arrangements are made. Typical adoption fees are $175 for adult dogs and $200 for puppies. We reserve the right to charge different fees for "designer" breeds. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested, and on heartworm preventative at the time of adoption. All dogs have been examined by our veterinarian and given a clean bill of health at the time of adoption.
