Turnip wants to be your lap dog. She doesn’t care how big she will one day be. Her ambition is to win the Top Lap Dog crown. At only two and a half months old, this 19 pound Shepherd mix is well on the way to achieving her goal. Forget about the fluffy little pups, you won’t find a better cuddler than Turnip. As eager to please as she is to maximize puppy kisses, Turnip already has a good grasp of her basic commands and is excelling at potty training. While lap time is always her favorite time, Turnip knows the importance of being well rounded. So she is happy to engage in a game of puppy tag with her foster siblings or practice her kissing technique with the smaller humans. Quiet in her crate and in the yard, Turnip isn’t much of a barker and is willing to let other dogs, big or small, take the lead. She doesn’t care much about the squirrels, deer, or cats that visit. Instead, she’s on the lookout for an empty lap, pair of arms, or shoulder to snuggle into.
Adoption Process
Applicants must fill out an application at www.adoptapitrescue.org/apply. We screen all applications, with approved applicants passing a vet and landlord check. All pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and on year-round heartworm preventative. Non-homeowners must have permission from their landlord to have a dog. Once approved, we schedule a home visit, where an adoption representative takes the dog to the adopter's home to see if the dog is a good fit for the family and other pets, as well as verify the home is a safe environment for the dog. If everyone feels the dog is a good fit, a contract is signed, adoption fee is paid, and the family takes possession of the dog, unless other arrangements are made. Typical adoption fees are $175 for adult dogs and $200 for puppies. We reserve the right to charge different fees for "designer" breeds. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested, and on heartworm preventative at the time of adoption. All dogs have been examined by our veterinarian and given a clean bill of health at the time of adoption.
