SANDY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Sandy      Best Guess for Breed:   Lab/Yellow Lab   Best Guess for Age:    4 1/2 years as of Feb 2024       Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:    56 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs;  not sure about kids or cats yet, but we can find out!  Currently Living At: Shelter--looking for a foster or forever home!  Special Adoption Considerations: Sandy is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Sandy is Looking For: Although I’m way past my crazy puppy stage,  I’d love to be join an active family that will provide me with plenty of exercise and playtime!   I would love to go on long walks and hikes, and take trips to the dog park so can socialize with my canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, I’ll shower my new forever family with plenty of cuddles and kisses!  I’m also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone my doggie manners and impress my new family. Adoption Process
1. Complete Adoption Application 2. Phone interview, vet check and home visit. 3. Contract signed (requirements include keeping a pet ID on dog at all times, keeping the dog as a pet, spaying/neutering puppies by 6 monts of age, returning the pet to Lucky Dog in the adopter cannot take care of it at any point in the future, and providing adequate vet care for the rest of the dog's life.
