Husky Education And Rescue Team, Inc.

We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit - pending animal rescue organization. Our organization saves, rehabilitates, and rehomes Siberian Huskies (and other breeds of dogs) who are abandoned and are in kill shelters. We provide medical and behavioral services and rehome them to compatible families. We do this through volunteer efforts. Most of the dogs in need will come from the Southern States where the shelter kill rate is higher. We have a network of foster homes along the East Coast, while our adoption locations can be found in Maryland and New Jersey.

Meet Gunther

This is Gunther.   Gunther is a Siberian Husky who found himself in the shelter last week. We don't know all of his backstory. It was reported he previously lived with another Husky and did well. That family rehomed him (for reasons unknown to us) to another family who had a dog who didn't appreciate the Husky playstyle. And so he was dumped at the shelter. Gunther is around a year old, although the owner who surrendered him said he was two. This guy hasn't grown into his head or his paws yet. You may have seen his shelter video when he went viral, singing the song of his people. He was definitely loud at the shelter and can be very vocal when he wants to be. But in an everyday setting he talks the same amount as the average Husky.   But don't be fooled by his devilish looks. His looks are very deceiving. He's anything but a devil.   Gunther is really a very sweet guy. He is affectionate and a total love bug. He just wants to be wherever you are. He's great with the other dogs, but we actually would consider him a bit on the shy side. Of course his play style is all Husky, but he's really dialed back. He actually shies away from the super rambunctious dogs. He's housebroken and crate trained. He has no handling issues and isn't a picky eater. He likes his toys but can be destructive and get into mischief when left unattended. Just like any young Husky. Overall he has great manners and has never once had an accident in the house. He listens really well (for a Husky!). Gunther is actually quite the catch. Gunther would probably like a home with another dog who likes to play but isn't too crazy. He does like their companionship. He would do best in a home where people aren't out of the house long work days. He would be fine with or without a fenced yard as long as you're committed to exercise and potty breaks on leash.   We would really like to see someone with breed experience adopt this special boy. He's been through a lot and has been misunderstood. He's actually a very easy Husky! He is neutered, healthy and current on his vaccines. We will not be adopting him into an apartment or multifamily dwelling given his vocal tendencies! We do not know if he's cat friendly. Gunther is located in MD.
