MONA LISA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Mona Lisa Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of March 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 14 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We would be cautious placing her in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living at: Coming soon to a DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Because Mona Lisa was nursing puppies when she arrived into our care, she has not yet been altered. We will spay her as soon as possible. However, if she is adopted before then, her adopters will need to take responsibility for her spay. This must be done by March 31, 2025; there are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. Mona Lisa is Looking For: Her forever home! She had and raised her puppies in less than awesome circumstances, but she was an amazing mama and did an excellent job of raising her babies to be awesome family pets. Now she's eager to have her own humans, to love and be loved. She's looking forward to sniffy walks, world exploration - and the best part, snuggling with her humans after a fun day together. Shelter staff say she is a happy girl! In exchange for love and safety, she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Adoption Process
1. Complete Adoption Application
2. Phone interview, vet check and home visit.
3. Contract signed (requirements include keeping a pet ID on dog at all times, keeping the dog as a pet, spaying/neutering puppies by 6 monts of age, returning the pet to Lucky Dog in the adopter cannot take care of it at any point in the future, and providing adequate vet care for the rest of the dog's life.
