Diego NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Diego Best Guess for Breed: Springer/Spaniel mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of Jan 2025 Gender: male Approximate Weight: 32 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen him with kids or cats but we can always test. Currently Living At: South Carolina SHELTER. He needs a forever or foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Diego is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Diego is Looking For: A loving home where he can get lots of attention, exercise, and snuggles. A family to provide plenty of outdoor fun. At just one year old, Diego eager to learn new tricks and refine his skills. Diego is a social dog who is always excited to meet new friends—both human and canine. He would love long walks through the neighborhood and frequent visits to the dog park to meet new friends. If you’re looking for a dog who will be your playful companion and cuddle partner all rolled into one, Diego might just be the perfect fit. He’s ready to find his forever home where he can share all his love and excitement with you. What My Foster Says About Me: will update when he arrives in the area.
