Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

Meet Scout

SCOUT NEEDS A FOREVER HOME WITH A WELCOMING RESIDENT DOG AND NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!!!   Come meet Scout and other great adoptable dogs this Saturday (March 4th) from 12-2 pm at the Petco in Rockville (1507 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852)!  Name: Scout      Best Guess for Breed: Beagle mix   Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of February 2023       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight: 27 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Due to his shyness, he may not go to a home with children under the age of 12.   Currently Living at: DC area foster home!   Special adoption considerations:  Scout is shy and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog to show him the ropes. Because of his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.   Scout is Looking For:  This sweet beagle and his sister Shiloh were surrendered by their owner because they wouldn't hunt. They aren't bonded and are ready to go off to their separate homes. Since they haven't seen much of the world, they're a little shy and need extra patient and loving adopters who will help give them new experiences at their pace. They'll also need a welcoming resident dog who will show them how to dog - and how awesome it is to be a well-loved family pet! Scout would love to trot through the world with confidence and savor being safe and loved under his own roof - will you be the one to give him that? In exchange he promises utter adoration and abject devotion.  What My Foster Says About Me:  Scout is awesome. Absolutely awesome. He is an incredibly friendly little guy -- he approaches people we encounter on walks trotting and wagging his tail! He greets every dog, even dogs much bigger than he is, with a wagging tail and a sweet little sniff. He is getting along incredibly well with my dogs -- my female has even agreed to share her crate with him -- of course he has his own, and the door to hers stays open, but they will sit in hers together for long stretches of time. He is the first foster dog I've had who was welcomed into that inner sanctum. He enjoys sniffing on walks and trotting along beside my male dog, who is a lab/hound mix and seems to think Scout is his personal pet. Scout sleeps soundly through the night in his crate. He has yet to make a sound -- hasn't barked, bayed or howled. That doesn't mean he won't eventually, but he seems to be a quiet little guy. He hasn't had any accidents in the house either -- so while I can't say he's housebroken, he seems to know that he should wait until he's outside to do his business. He started out fairly reserved in his greetings to me but has quickly progressed to running up and greeting me enthusiastically when he comes out of the crate, or when he's been exploring the backyard. He loves running around in the backyard and he is quite fast on his short little legs! He also enjoys playing with toys in the backyard and burying them, so while he won't hunt with you, if you have any nefarious (or not so nefarious) objects you need buried, Scout is your guy. Scout is really a perfect little dog, who will make a great companion to any dog of any size, and to their family, for years and years to come. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:   The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
