NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS! Meet Sasha! Animal Control picked up this adorable pup as a stray in rural South Carolina. Initially, she was terrified of people and being handled and needed time in a foster home to decompress. She’s been in her local foster home for about six weeks now and has acclimated to home life. She’s living with a foster mom and dad, and multiple other pups who have become her playmates and confidants. It took Sasha a few weeks to begin to trust her new surroundings. For the first week, she hid in her crate and would come out only for meal time and potty breaks. As she started watching the other dogs get pets and treats, she began coming into the kitchen for treats and becoming more interested in participating. After she had a basic comfort level, her foster mom started keeping her close by on leash in the home to get her more engaged in their everyday activity. As Sasha started connecting with the other dogs, she gained confidence and started following them around. She is now best friends with the two younger dogs in the home, Plato and Brutus. They love to play and romp in the yard and they sleep as a pack in bed at night. She is also much more engaging with her foster parents. She takes treats directly from her foster mom’s hands, gives kisses, and loves to be rubbed. She lets you know when she wants to be petted by batting you with her paw…as her confidence grows, we are seeing a little bit of her inner diva emerge. Sasha is crate trained and housetrained. She has learned to use the doggy door for potty breaks, so she may need some adjustment time if she does not have that option in her new home. A home with a secure fenced yard is vital for her, as she’s still a work in progress on leash. She will need time to acclimate to her new home and build the confidence to venture out in the community. Sasha needs an experienced, patient owner who will give her time to adjust and settle in. She also needs another social, playful dog (or dogs) in her home to help build her confidence. She really flourishes as part of a pack and is going to blossom into a great companion.
