Meet Yeti of MD
Sweet beautiful Yeti was an owner surrender to ERU becuase the owner could no longer care for Yeti due to the owner's health issues.Yeti loves his yard, daily walks, everyone he meets, and is great with dogs. Yeti travels great in the car. He is a wonderful boy filled with personality.Yeti's owner was unable to walk him or take him out often enough, so Yeti wore diapers in the home. Yeti also gained 13 pounds in the last nine months before coming to ERU. I noticed once he came to my home that his urine seemed very dilute, he urinated often (polyuria), and he drank a lot (polydipsia). The urine specific gravity showed that his urine was indeed dilute, so we ran a water deprivation test (test for diabetes insipidus). The results show that diabetes insipidus can be ruled out.Yeti's blood panel shows normal kidney, liver, pancreas, thyroid, calcium, electrolyte balance and blood osmolality and the urinalysis panel was likewise normal except the low specific gravity. Based on these results, the common causes of dilute urine (low specific gravity) can be ruled out. Yeti is microchipped and had his teeth cleaned. Yeti is on a diet and gets plenty of daily exercise.Yeti is housetrained when kept on a routine where is is able to relieve himself, especially after drinking lots of water (e.g. after meals and execise). He is able to hold his bladder all night. His new family would need to be mindful to always have fresh water available for Yeti including on long walks or while traveling.Yeti is a superstar, lots of fun, and wants to please.
