Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Ginny - ADOPTED!!!

Meet Ginny. One of the newborn puppies Worthy Dog took in right before the Christmas holiday. Her very pregnant mom, Mary, was dropped off at a local Humane Society facility right before closing and had a large chain around her neck. The facility was over capacity, so the staff set up a temporary spot in their bathroom for Mary and put out a plea to the rescue community for help. Mary gave birth to 12 puppies the very next morning. Fortunately,  Worthy Dog found a wonderful foster family, Ginny and John, who graciously stepped up to take in Mary and her 12 puppies. Over the last 6 weeks, they have provided lots of love, care, and a dedicated safe space for Mary to nurse her pups. The puppies have already started weaning and will be getting their first round of puppy shots next week. Multiple rescues are helping out with the puppies, and Worthy Dog is keeping Mary and two of her puppies - Ginny (White, Female) and Johnny (Blonde, Male).  We named these two adorable puppies in honor of their very special fosters who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Both puppies are BIG, weighing 8.5 and 10 lbs at only 6 weeks old. Mama Mary is a black Lab mix, but we think Dad might have been a Great Pyrenees or some other large, fluffy breed based on their size and coat. Ginny is playful but also cuddly and likes to be held. She has been very fortunate to be born into a very stable, supportive environment with plenty of bonding time with her mom and important socialization with her pack.  We are looking for a fun, active family who has a flexible schedule and is ready for puppy mode. A family with another social, playful pup in the home would be great for Ginny to learn from. While Ginny is very cute a little now, we expect her to be a LARGE dog who will need leadership and an owner committed to basic training.  Preference will be given to adopters with: Large Breed Dog Experience Flexible, puppy-friendly schedule Another social dog in the home (preferred but not required) An active home in the DC metro and surrounding area Ginny is still too young to be spayed, but having her spayed at the appropriate age will be required as part of her adoption terms. We will require that proof of spay is provided to the rescue. She will be coming to the DC metro area on 3/2 and will be ready to go home. Apply today! Please Note: These puppies will NOT be adopted out together. BREED ESTIMATE: Lab/Great Pyrenees Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~ 8.5  lbs APPROXIMATE AGE:  ~ 6 weeks old (D.O.B - 12.20.23) COAT TYPE:  Medium Fluffy ADOPTION FEE: $400 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/microchipped FOSTER LOCATION: York, SC   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home, and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that primarily adopts to families in the DC Metro area.
