300Meet Grandpa Joe
Meet Grandpa Joe! This 12-years young elderbull came to us from local animal control after his owner could no longer care for him and we are swooning over his specialness. Joe is a gentle senior with the softest tail wag we’ve seen, and at over 80 lbs is a big boy. When we met this seasoned GrandPAW last month, he was in rough shape, even after beginning a great medical plan while in animal control. He had the worst ear and paw infections we’ve ever seen, extensive arthritis and muscle atrophy, and other medical concerns...all of which we are still treating. This mature pup is almost completely deaf and sleeps peacefully and soundly. He has had 2 Librela injections to help with arthritic pain. And while he didn’t immediately jump out of bed and dance like the real Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the injections are helping, and these would need to be continued monthly. Even with this treatment, Joe can’t navigate stairs and needs assistance to navigate even a step or two to go outside. Despite all that’s going on, Joe is still enjoying all that life has to offer! He loves soft toys, treats, eating snow, sniffing around the yard, and being part of the action. He wobbles from room-to-room and dog bed-to-bed to make sure he doesn’t miss out on a thing. He tolerates handling, taking medication, and getting his ear cleaned like a champ and is a resilient pup who still experiences so much joy. He LOVES to be close! His current foster is sleeping on a mattress on the floor with him and he is a cuddlebug in a human sized body! Grandpa Joe is in his golden years, and we strongly believe that senior pitizens are the best! He sleeps through the night (and much of the day) and has limited demands. Caring for him physically is really all that’s required, along with a warm and comfortable home to call his own for all of his days. Due to his age, and the aches and pains of being an aging adult, older or no kids would be best for this special and distinguished soul. Grandpa Joe’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family with kind hands and open hearts who will make this sweet and deserving senior man feel nothing but love for all of his days. 2. A family who understands that a seasoned soul like Grandpa might be a vintage edition but still has soooo much love to give. 3. A family who understands the physical demands of an 80-lb pup with mobility issues and has a set-up that will accommodate these needs. Carpet runners, pee pads, lots of dog beds, minimal or no stairs, etc.
