Meet Sonny

Meet Sonny! A sprightly five-year-old Terrier mix from sunny San Diego, CA, whose tan wire coat is as charmingly tousled as his playful personality. Weighing in at a sturdy 35 pounds, Sonny is a medium-sized bundle of energy who adores running, jumping, and playing tug-of-war—then winding down with some serious snuggle time and pets. Sonny is equal parts playful sidekick and loyal couch buddy. He loves to be near his people and thrives on attention, affection, and a predictable routine. A couple of daily walks, mealtimes on schedule, and a cozy spot in bed (yes, your bed if you'll let him!) are his recipe for happiness. He responds to his name and comes when called or whistled—especially if there’s the promise of fun or treats! Now, Sonny is not just looking for any home—he needs a calm and understanding environment. While he’s friendly with other dogs, he does not do well with cats and isn’t suitable for homes with young children. He’s had a few difficult moments in the past—he’s bitten three people and one dog, all during high-stress situations when loud noises or sudden commotion overwhelmed him. These incidents speak to Sonny’s deep sensitivity rather than aggression. He reacts out of fear and confusion, so he’ll need a compassionate and experienced caregiver who can support him with patience and structure, and possibly work with a trainer using positive reinforcement techniques to build his confidence. Sonny is fully house-trained, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He does fine being left alone for short stretches and quickly bonds with those who show him kindness. At first, he may be cautious with new people, but once he feels safe, he becomes deeply affectionate and loyal. There’s something especially sweet about a dog who chooses to love and trust after being unsure. Sonny has so much joy and devotion to give—he just needs the right match to help him feel secure. Could that be you? If you think you could be the loving haven Sonny needs, please contact [email protected]. Are you ready to earn the trust of a pup who’s got a heart full of love waiting just for you?
