Meet Salem

Meet Salem Saberhagen or Salem for short! A lively six-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pitbull Terrier mix from New York, NY, who is ready to be your constant companion. With her sleek black coat and soulful eyes, she’s not just a beauty—she’s a bundle of love who’s always ready to make your day brighter! Salem is the ultimate people-lover! Whether it's playing with her favorite stuffed toys or going on long, snowy walks (her absolute favorite weather!), she will thrive in a home with a family who enjoys time together and has plenty of space for her to roam—preferably a yard where she can chase her beloved squirrels and lizards. She’s incredibly curious and will make you laugh as she sniffs around, chasing after flying insects. Don’t let her zest for life fool you—she’s a loyal cuddle buddy who’s happiest being by your side, making her a perfect fit for a homebody who doesn’t leave her alone for long stretches. Salem is a loving and eager-to-please dog with a variety of strengths, including being house-trained, leash-trained, and knowledgeable in commands like "sit," "go to your bed," "wait," and "down." She is highly food-motivated and enjoys treats like carrots and yogurt, which makes her a joy to train! However, Salem does have severe separation anxiety. She will require a dedicated pet parent who can provide her with the time and energy to manage her anxiety through training or is prepared to support her with medication, as needed. Salem thrives in a quiet, calm environment. She’s not a fan of big trucks, fireworks, or thunder, and warm weather isn’t really her thing. She must be the only animal in the home, as she prefers her human’s undivided attention. While she’s selective about other dogs, she’s good with young children and will fit right into a loving, stable household with an experienced dog caregiver. Are you looking for a devoted, loving companion who will be your shadow and fill your home with joy? Salem is waiting for you to make new memories together! Could Salem be the one who steals your heart?  Contact [email protected] to meet this wonderful girl today!
