Meet Hickory! A wise and affectionate eleven-year-old Labrador Retriever/Coonhound mix from Bradenton, FL, whose soulful brown eyes hold a lifetime of love and loyalty. Wrapped in a rich chocolate brown coat with warm tan accents, this medium-sized gentleman (weighing in at a perfect 42 pounds) has mastered the art of companionship, always ready to brighten your day with his gentle presence. Hickory is searching for a new loving home after the heartbreaking loss of his beloved guardian. Hickory may be in his golden years, but don’t let that fool you—he still enjoys a good game of squeeze ball and a satisfying chew on his trusty nylon bone! His energy level is a delightful balance of playful and relaxed, making him the perfect partner for leisurely strolls or cozy afternoons spent by your side. A true people-lover, he greets strangers with friendly curiosity and has a special knack for sensing when you need a little extra comfort. If you’ve had a tough day, Hickory will be right there, offering a soft nuzzle as if to say, “I’ve got you.” This well-mannered pup has a solid foundation in obedience and responds to commands like "place," "here," "off," "sit," and "down." He’s house-trained, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations, with just a little extra care needed for his hips—nothing a dose of Gabapentin and supplements can’t handle! While he does best with a fenced yard where he can explore safely, he’s content to simply be where his people are. Hickory is wonderful with young children and even gets along with cats, making him a fantastic addition to a variety of households. When it comes to other dogs, he’s a bit selective—some furry friends are great, while others he prefers to admire from a distance. He’s comfortable being left alone for a few hours but would thrive in a home where love and companionship are in abundance. Just don’t expect him to hop into a crate or tolerate a blow dryer—those are firm "no thank yous" in Hickory’s book! If you're looking for a devoted friend who will be your shadow, your cheerleader, and your most reliable confidant, Hickory is ready to fill that role!
