Meet Charlie
Meet Charlie – Your New Best Friend Charlie is a 1.5-year-old Portuguese Water Dog with a heart full of love and energy to spare. At 52 pounds, he’s the perfect size for outdoor adventures, long walks, and snuggles on the couch—once he’s had a good day of play! Charlie came to us after his senior owners realized they couldn’t keep up with his needs. Portuguese Water Dogs are a lively and intelligent breed that thrives with an active family who can provide plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and structure. These dogs are natural swimmers, quick learners, and love being part of the action. Charlie has already completed obedience training and done incredibly well, so he’s ready to keep impressing you with his smarts and dedication. Charlie also has experience with children as young as 8 years old and was wonderful with them in his previous home. He even got along with the resident cat, though the feeling may not have been mutual! PWDs need regular grooming to keep their signature coat in top shape, so a family who understands this commitment—or is willing to learn—is a must. Experience with the breed would be ideal, but most importantly, Charlie needs a family who can match his energy and give him the active, fulfilling life he deserves. If you’re looking for an affectionate, fun-loving companion who’s great with kids and always up for an adventure, Charlie might just be your perfect match. Apply today to bring this wonderful boy into your life! This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.Q: What is a Benefactor Puppy or Dog and why is their fee higher? Dogs and puppies with benefactor or higher adoption fees are sometimes purebred dogs or other rescue dogs that are in high demand for one reason or another. They are typically quickly adopted, even with their higher fees. Their increased adoption fees allow them to act as benefactors to other dogs in our care that require special medical care and a better chance at adoption. Some dogs spend over a year in our care and require expensive surgeries, heartworm treatment and professional training. Benefactor dogs help support the care of the dogs most in need with Sandy Paws Rescue.
