Good Dog Rescue

Good Dog Rescue is a an all-breed rescue group headquartered in Enfield CT. Our group is comprised of volunteers all over Eastern United States who love dogs and want to help those that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Loyal and loving dogs turn up every day in Southern shelters, as owners turn them in or they’re found roaming the streets after being dumped. To the best of our abilities, we evaluate all of our Good Dogs’ temperament and suitability for living with other dogs, cats, and children. A dog’s health is checked, and we make sure they are up-to-date on all shots and are spayed or neutered. Then, we place them in loving foster homes until they find their very own family. Our goal is to meet the needs of each dog as an individual and to assure proper placement in a loving forever home. What We Do... Good Dog is dedicated to animal rescue. In addition to our primary goal of helping homeless and abandoned dogs, we - donate money to low-cost spay/neuter clinics in the south to help solve the problem of pet overpopulation; - engage in community outreach activities with local schools to help educate children and young adults about animal rescue and responsible pet ownership; - team with non-profit organizations that train rescued dogs to assist disabled people. More than a dozen of our Good Dogs have become certified service dogs, helping disabled people lead more independent lives. We are proud of the work we do with our good dogs and in our local communities. South to North ConnectionEvery month, dozens of our Southern Good Dogs ride the transport north to their new forever and foster homes. The USDA-licensed transport drives up every week to meet new forever and foster families at various locations along the Tennessee-New England route. Our Southern adoptions are long-distance and the dogs are taken directly home from the transport . We facilitate long-distance adoptions by the transfer of pictures and information about the dog, and we arrange to have the adopter speak to the dog's foster parents. When a dog is in a New England foster home, we are more than happy to arrange a pre-adoption meeting!

Meet Rocco

To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Rocco is a 4yo male husky/shepherd mix who is being surrendered by his owner in TN because he is too large and active for their special needs toddler. Rocco is friendly and well socialized, he loves people. He loves kids and is great with the family’s 3 young children. Fine with cats and living comfortably with 3 cats in the home. Good with other dogs but he considers himself the alpha dog. Very active outside, settles down quickly in the house. Good house manners. Crate trained and housebroken. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with his people.  Good on a leash, rides great in the car.  Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, neutered, weighs about 90 pounds.  AWESOME shepherd mix will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner!) for an active family who loves the breed. Here’s some notes from Rocco’s mom:  We have had Rocco since he was a little puppy but now we have special needs toddler and he needs a more active family home… We have 3 kids, and he is great with all of them; he’s great with friends and friend’s kids too. All kids at park know him and pet him often… I take him on a mile walk daily, but I think he needs to run and walk more… Loves to run, fetch, play with his ball toys, loves attention… He hates to get brushed, so I give him treats while brushing him out…  He thinks he’s the alpha dog and has had issues with non-neutered males in the past... He is a great guard dog. He barks whenever anyone comes into our yard or home that he doesn’t know. But he does warm up to people easily when he realizes not a threat… He walks good on a lease… We have 3 cats. It took some time for them to get used to each other since he was so much bigger than them. But, he just wants to play with them all the time. He does leave them alone if they swat at him… Rocco has had training, he can sit, lay down, somewhat stay, and talk some when asked. He’s super smart and super strong and picks up on things really quickly...  We got him over COVID and I work from home so we have always been home with him…  He’s a little hyper and needs to be walked at least twice a day. We walk in afternoons after school and evenings around 8 before crating him for the night...  I haven’t known him to be fearful of anything, he just likes to be around other dogs or people. He would fetch the ball all day long if he could, he loves being outside…  Rocco’s ideal adopter is a young family who is very active and have experience with large, strong dogs.  He is such a sweet dog that needs to be with people who can give him the activity, time, and love that he needs and deserves.
