Meet Harper Lee

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application    HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see    HERE Age: 1 year (as of 7/1/2024) Weight: 49.2 (as of 8/26/2024) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Hi, my name is Harper Lee. I am a sweet and happy-go-lucky girl that's ready to join your family. I am pretty sure I am a Border Collie and Lab mix around 1 years old. I was found as a stray hanging around an elementary school. I am good with other dogs and I'm very sweet with people and children, but sometimes can get a little rowdy and jump and maybe a family with little kids might not be a good fit for me. I have met cats and am interested in a playful way. I am house trained and am cool hanging out in a crate where I don’t make a peep and, if I say so myself, am pretty good at walking on a leash, but guess I could always use some practice! I've got a voice and I'm not afraid to use it, especially when it comes to playtime. I would love a fenced yard so I can run and play safely but is should be a tall fence as I can easily climb a four foot one. If you don’t have a yard with a fence, that’s cool, I’ll just need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. You know what would really be cool? You and I go to some dog training classes together, ideally in the first 60 days or so of bringing me home. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends. I love to have fun, whether it's running in the yard or playing with you, but I'm not all about having fun, as I love to snuggle and give kisses, too. If you are looking for the perfect young dog, please fill out an application for me – Harper! I can't wait to meet you! Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease.  Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future.  Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete.  Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home.  This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications.  Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see   HERE   for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:   Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org)   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
