To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: About 11 months as of December 15, 2024 Weight: About 56 pounds as of December 13, 2024 Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative, and is microchipped. Some people like their chow mein spicy, but if you like yours sweet, this girl is for you! Chow Mein is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. She is very interested in playing but is a bit timid about engaging. Chow Mein gets along with kids - she has lived with a preschooler and school-aged tikes - and dogs. She gets along with all adults but can be shy when meeting new people. She finds cats interesting and is tempted to chase but responds well to redirection. Chow Mein does fine when left without humans. She is quiet, affectionate, and respectful of corrections. Her favorite things include toys, walks and playing bitey-mouth and chase with her canine buddies. Like all rescues, she has a few things to work on (don’t we all?). House and crate training are in progress, and she hasn’t had any accidents. She pulls a bit when on a leash and has been known to help herself to goodies left on the counter. We highly recommend training for Chow Mein to help her gain confidence, bond with you, and improve her manners. With a little attention and understanding, she will make a great addition to your family! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia, and please check with your vet before you apply to adopt this dog if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
