Meet Nayru

Nayru is looking for her fur-ever home! Nayru is from a commercial breeder. She is a petite little girl at about 19 pounds. She is definitely a favorite over here! When we first took Nayru in, she had an injury where she basically degloved the skin from one of her toes. The healing process was supposed to look like bandage changes and her wearing a cone to prevent licking at the wound BUT Nayru had other plans. Kenzie dubbed her with a nickname: Houdini. After her first bandage was put on her paw, Kenzie placed her in a kennel for monitoring. Not 2 minutes later did Kenzie walk past the kennel and see that Nayru had both her cone and bandage off. Kenzie replaced the bandage and had help to try a different kind of cone. Nope...Nayru had that off in minutes as well. Eventually, we just couldn't get anything to work, and thankfully Nayru left her wound alone and it healed nicely! But her nickname stuck with us and her doctor :) Nayru has such an adorable personality. She can be shy, as most of these commercial breeder dogs are, but she is most of the time outgoing and friendly with people and other dogs. Ideally, due to her husky mix (we believe she is also Pomski), we are looking for a home with a fenced in yard since the husky breeds are prone to running. We also require her to go to a home with another dog in it since she is still learning what it's like to be a dog, and she is the most comfortable around another dog. She has never been in a home before, so it's difficult to say how she will do. Nayru was in a foster home temporarily and they said that she was great with the kids, but when the household life became too much for her, she would just hide in her crate. We think a quieter home would be best for her. She also is not yet potty trained and does need someone willing to help her learn to go potty outside. Nayru also came to us with heartworm disease. We don't know how long she has been suffering with this. We completed her treatment, but we ask that her new owners recheck her heartworm disease with a heartworm test in about 6 months (due April 2023) to make sure she is clear of the disease. We did discover that she developed a heart murmur. We rechecked the heart murmur and our veterinarians say it is very very faint. The heart murmur may even go away. We did chest xrays to check the heart and everything with her heart looks normal. For applicants, we always do a vet check, and it's very very important, especially for Nayru, that she is kept on a monthly heartworm, flea and tick prevention, as well as doing a heartworm and tick disease bloodtest every year to make sure she is in the clear.  An approved adoption application is required. The $250 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.
