Pet Haven Inc. of MN

Pet Haven is Minnesota's oldest animal rescue group. Pet Haven's vision is to be a rewarding place to volunteer, find a quality home for each animal, encourage a community of responsible companion animal guardians, eliminate the community's need to euthanize dogs and cats as a means of population control, and encourage a society where animals become more valued.

Meet Penny

Penny is a lovable 6-year-old Hound/Retriever mix with the sweetest face! At 90 pounds, she’s a large but gentle soul who enjoys staying close to her people, both indoors and out. Her sweet nature and adorable habit of "plopping" down for a nap next to you make her a perfect companion for a family looking for a loyal and mellow dog. While Penny is a bit shy at first, she settled in at home nicely with some love and patience! She is great at signaling to her foster family when she needs to go outside, so she has never had an accident inside. Once she's warmed up to you, she'll act as your loyal guard dog when people come over, but will quickly calm down when given pets. The rest of the time, you can find her happily relaxing around the house without any issues. While she’s not a fan of crates, she’s proven she doesn’t need one.Penny loves to make friends! This gentle girl is great with other dogs and is generally friendly and submissive. She runs and plays happily with her canine friends, though she may need a bit of guidance around high-value treats like bones. A resident dog may also be helpful for Penny to adjust into her new home (duck jerky helps too!). Penny also tolerates cats, including kittens, and peacefully coexists with her feline housemates. With her humans, a soft tone, gentle approach, and plenty of patience will help her adjust. She’s a little shy around men and may take a few days to feel comfortable. At the same time, Penny adores children and greets them with tail wags and kisses. This sweetheart is very easy to please. Penny doesn’t need hours of exercise to be content -- a short walk is enough to keep her happy and healthy, making her ideal for a family looking for a low-energy companion. She doesn’t require a fenced yard and is more than happy to stick by your side, both indoors and out. Penny’s favorite things include jerky treats, cheese, and all the cuddles you’re willing to give. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, and deeply affectionate dog who will stay by your side and fill your days with love, Penny is the perfect match! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
