Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN

Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. We are a small, volunteer run organization. All of our animals listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the animals' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter. This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We provide all needed supplies and cover medical costs of the foster while it awaits a forever home.

Meet Sky D6036

Sky is a 5 year old toy Aussie (possibly Aussiedoodle--although she does shed) who is a recent breeder release from a puppy mill.  She is taking in this whole new world and would love a patient and understanding home to help her thrive. The great stuff: She is incredibly sweet and smart. She is picking up housebreaking super fast and I expect her to be fully housebroken easily in her new home. She loves to be around people and would adore to have her new family home a lot (Retired? Work from Home? Have a lot of love to pour into a new friend who loves attention? Want a fun little dog to train and see huge gains? Sky is your girl!). She is small (about 15 lbs) and dainty and obviously adorable. Probably not a good fit for little kids, because she is still pretty scared and shy, but she seems to like everyone. She thinks running around in the fenced yard outside is very exciting and it is probably her favorite new thing, prancing around happily, just wait until she learns that it gets warmer and will be even better soon! She is good with other dogs (would do great with a little dog friend) and ignores my cat. She likes to be cozy and wear sweaters and explore new places. She sleeps in a crate at night and is totally quiet when you are in the same room.   The things to work on: Sky has never learned all the normal dog things and spent the last 5 years in a small cage so will need someone to teach her what good dog life is all about. She does not know how to do stairs or cars or jump on the couch. She is a bit nervous of new spaces and sounds. She is not used to being pet or picked up so shies away from hands, but loves to be pet and snuggle once she is settled next to you. She will need to learn basic obedience and things like how to walk on a leash. The hardest part so far as her foster: Sky has decided she likes this new life and does not want to be left alone ever again, so she barks when she can't see anyone, especially me. She has very quickly decided I should never leave her side and follows me around the house and cries when I go to work. If you are okay with this little bit of separation anxiety that I expect to improve over time (maybe no shared walls or long stretches of alone time for her), this girl is a diamond in the rough. Read about rehabbing and training mill dogs, and if you are up for the challenge, reach out--I think she will be an amazing dog with lots of love and a little training.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an adoption application. After reviewing your application and contacting the vet and personal references, a meeting is scheduled between the potential adopter and the pet, in the foster's home or a neutral animal friendly place. If there are any resident animals within the home, it is required that they meet at this time. After the meeting, a home visit by one our representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pet will be living sometime during the adoption process. 6 month post-adoption check in is completed.
