Dakota Dachshund Rescue

Diane started doing fostering at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and then Pet Pals for Life. She had a passion for dachshunds. We noticed that the Sioux Falls area had a need for a dachshund rescue so her and I (Doug) started DDR. The response and need was much greater than we anticipated.

Hi! I'm Honey. I am a honey, well I do need a little work on meeting new dogs out in public but I am great with all my canine friends in my foster home. I came to DDR because I had some health issues, actually I had a really nasty urinary tract infection so I was having accidents in the house. Now that I had my teeth cleaned and my UTI cleared up I am feeling soooo much better. I walk well on a harness and leash however I do require a fenced yard because I bark and try to chase people on the block when out for a walk. If I didn't have a fence when I go out to potty I would take off to chase anything I could.I am a young 10 years old, I weigh 12 pounds, my adoption fee is $250 plus sales tax $11.25 = $261.25   My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, spay, dental and microchipping.

Adoption Process
Usually we are contacted by a SD shelter about a dachshund that is not doing well (nipping etc.) and that they are going to be put down. We take them in get them vetted and then place them up for adoption after they have been evaluated. We also take calls from folks who have called their local shelter about there dachshund that may have started nipping at small children etc and are told the dog would be put down. We also take calls from other rescues about breeder dogs.
