Dakota Dachshund Rescue

Diane started doing fostering at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and then Pet Pals for Life. She had a passion for dachshunds. We noticed that the Sioux Falls area had a need for a dachshund rescue so her and I (Doug) started DDR. The response and need was much greater than we anticipated.

Meet Martin

We are an all-volunteer/foster home-based rescue. Apply to adopt by filling out the online adoption application on our main website dakotadachshundrescue.org Click on Adoption Info under the Navigation bar on the left side of the page. Fill out the form by clicking on the picture of the computer screen with our logo on it.   Martin is a very high energy 6 months old puppy, he came to us as a breeder release because he has a back leg abnormality....right rear leg has genu recurvatum, basically his leg is deformed and cannot bend. He is a sweet boy and loves everyone. His testicles have not dropped, not even to a point Dr Paul can feel them in his abdomen so we are waiting another month to neuter him    Local adoption only until Martin is neutered hopefully at 7 months of age which will be end of April.   Local adoption only until Martin neuter will be scheduled at 7 months of age as his testicles have not dropped.. Neuter will be scheduled end  April,2025 My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter, dental if needed and microchipping.

Adoption Process
Usually we are contacted by a SD shelter about a dachshund that is not doing well (nipping etc.) and that they are going to be put down. We take them in get them vetted and then place them up for adoption after they have been evaluated. We also take calls from folks who have called their local shelter about there dachshund that may have started nipping at small children etc and are told the dog would be put down. We also take calls from other rescues about breeder dogs.
