Fionnula is a name of Irish origin meaning fair shoulders. We decided her full name was too long and too hard to pronounce, so we call her Nelly. Nelly was picked up as a stray by Minneapolis animal control so no information is available about her parents. She looks like a small black lab but beyond that a DNA test will be needed. Nelly is a typical puppy. She loves people, other dogs and any visitors she meets. She is also very good with her foster family's grandchildren, ages 13 and 9. Nelly’s favorite playmate is the Great Dane living at her foster home. They play tug, wrestle and do zoomies in the yard even though her legs are only 1/4 the size of the Danes. She loves to cuddle, take naps on your lap and getting attention. Potty training is a work in progress. She is like any other toddler; she does well on a schedule, and without a schedule, she has accidents. When she is outside she loves to have a toy in her mouth and will prance around the yard with her find. She has been working on sit and stay before she eats. The sit is great, the stay is getting there. Nelly is crate-trained with a treat and sleeps in the kennel all night without any fuss. When you come home she will greet you with tail wag and smiles. Don’t let the curse of the black dog steer you away from Nelly. It is a known fact that black dogs are less likely to get adopted than brown or white dogs. She is adorable and would make a great addition to your home. Are you willing to give her a chance?
Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an adoption application. After reviewing your application and contacting the vet and personal references, a meeting is scheduled between the potential adopter and the pet, in the foster's home or a neutral animal friendly place. If there are any resident animals within the home, it is required that they meet at this time. After the meeting, a home visit by one our representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pet will be living sometime during the adoption process. 6 month post-adoption check in is completed.
