Meet Daphne
"Hi. My name is Daphne. I’m with a foster family right now and they are helping me learn about being a loved pet. Before I got here, I was always outside. When I came to this new place, I wasn’t sure what to think. I didn’t feel very well, there was this big dog that was rather standoffish, and there were lots of new people and things to find out about. And I wasn’t outside all the time. I was pretty quiet the first week or so, which was my foster mom said was okay because I needed time to adjust and time to rest and heal after my emergency surgery. It took me about two weeks to become more comfortable here and get used to the daily routines. I’m feeling better each day! This family gives me the run of the house because I have never once had an accident, never once tried to chew on the furniture, or jumped up to see what’s on the counter (even though there are always good scents wafting over me from there). They let me have the run of the house when they go places, too, and after a bit of pacing from door to door trying to get to them, I eventually give up and go lay down in my kennel. But if I could run out the door with them, I would. I do like to take naps in my kennel, and go in willingly, but DO NOT like being locked in it. If it’s locked I get very nervous and scared and try to break out. At night, I sleep in a doggie bed right next to that big dog’s kennel. Sometimes I will even try to get in it with him to sleep. I love going on walks, watching squirrels and birds (wish I would be allowed to go after them), sunning myself on the deck and the game of tug. I want to play fetch, but the big dog always gets the ball. And I guess I am not very good about sharing, from what my foster mom tells me. Oh, and I LOVE belly rubs. That is my favorite. Like Buddy the Elf loves Christmas. I also like to chew on stinky socks. I am a good eater – I don’t get aggressive with my food, eat at a good pace and clean my dish. When I am done eating (separate from the big dog because I will eat his food too if I can), I always go check the other dishes to see if there‘s anything there. The best part of my day is when the family gets up in the morning! I love to jump up in the bed like the big dog and give lots of kisses, bury my head into their necks or underarms and nibble groom them to make sure they are free of any fleas. I also lightly chew on their fingers and show them how much I like them. But hanging out on the sofa at night when they are watching TV is right up there, too. Do you like to nap? Go on walks? Eat all your food? Play tug? I think we might get along great! Can we be family?"
