Name: Emerald Age: DOB Approx 7/15/22 Gender: Female Breed: Border Collie Lab x Weight: 16 Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes House Trained: 90% Crate Trained: Yes Energy level: Moderate History: Pulled from an animal control Adoption Fee: $600 From the Foster: Emerald – or “Emmie”– is truly a gem! She is the perfect balance of playful, affectionate, curious, and calm. Emmie currently lives with a family with one middle schooler and two much bigger dogs. She does well with everyone, although she prefers to sit on the sidelines and watch when the big dogs play, as this can be a bit intimidating for her. She shares almost everything well – toys, food, and space – but sometimes she grumbles if another dog is getting too close for comfort. While most of the time she’s setting healthy boundaries, sometimes it seems like she’s resource-guarding human affection. She’s quickly learning it’s ok for everyone to get snuggles. She is very food motivated and a fast learner – she has the cutest ‘sit’ ever and uses it well! She has good recall and although she is at a mouthy stage of puppyhood, she is easily redirected when she’s chewing on something other than a toy. She would do really well in an obedience or tricks class as she gets older. Emmie loves being around people. She follows us everywhere and always wants to be where the action is. She responds to the energy in the room as well. If we’re up and about, she loves to play, but if I’m working at my desk or reading on the couch, she’ll curl up and rest or play quietly with a toy. She’s great on walks, although she gets a bit anxious when it’s dark or she hears other dogs barking. Her potty training is almost complete; she goes to the door when needed, and only had one accident inside (on a rug). She sleeps in her crate at night without any protest, and during the day she’ll spend time in it with minimal whining, although it helps when the other dogs are within her sight. She sleeps through the night without any issues. Emmie would do well in a household that can give her plenty of time and attention, especially as she explores her new home. Although she certainly gets the zoomies from time to time, she doesn’t need constant play as she loves to relax and cuddle for hours on end. She would probably enjoy having another young dog around, as big dogs or older dogs are a bit much for her play style. The ideal family would be willing to do some training with her, as she is a smart, curious pup with amazing potential.
