Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets

Who We Are:A group of volunteers in Jackson County, MS dedicated to the mission of saving animal’s lives at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. We are a 501c3 Non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Mississippi. Mission Statement:• To assist Jackson County Animal Shelter with funds, food, supplies, shelter improvements, fostering and volunteerism.• To assist Jackson County Animal Shelter in securing good, reliable adoptive families for animals through social networking, transport to other states and local adoption events. • To educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter laws, animal protection laws and pet owner responsibility. How You Can Help:We always need responsible foster families; we cannot pull animals from the local shelter unless we have safe, reliable foster homes for them to go to for training, medications, spay and neuter hold and quarantine for transports. We work in conjunction with local and out of state Rescue organizations to save as many animals as possible through this fostering, adoption and transport program.Financially, we need funds for supplies, vet care and medicines, shelter pull fees and subsidizing transports to other states. Future projects include possible upgrades to the shelter to help reduce the spread of disease, increase animal capacity and thereby reduce euthanasia rates. We are also working on how to implement and fund low cost spay and neuter programs, micro-chipping, an adoption sponsorship fund and other life saving ideas. Meet Cookie

My name is Cookie. I am a 3 year old, 60 pound pointer/ American bulldog mix. I was surrendered by my previous owner to our local animal shelter in May 2023. My foster mom pulled me from the shelter on March 9, 2024. So, I was in the shelter 283 days.  I know how to sit and learned how to use the doggie door within hours of being in my new foster home. I know how to wait patiently for my food. Mom doesn’t like me to eat until she says it’s okay. Mom taught me how to shake, if you offer your hand. I can easily learn commands if motivated with tasty treats. I don’t mind other dogs playing with my toys. I am housebroken and will need a fenced yard or an e-fence to stay safe.  I am good on a leash, but I can become a little too interested in other dogs. I can be selective with my dog friends, but I like the two at my foster home. I have visited other dogs and we go on walks together. Proper introductions are very important for me to feel safe. Mom doesn’t let me around cats, as I love to chase them.  I love toys. I love to chew. I love to play and my mom says my play bow is precious. My favorite game is tug. I can be left in my kennel all day, but when Mom gets home I have a ton of energy. She takes me on a 30-45 minute walk and I feel better. If I don’t get a walk after being in my kennel all day, sometimes I find stuff to chew on. I like kids, but I may be a little too rambunctious and play too hard for tiny toddlers.  I love big fluffy beds and don’t mind cuddling on it with my foster sister. I take lots of naps between playtimes. I rarely bark and am typically a quiet girl.

Adoption Process
Prospective adopter must fill out application/contract. Our adoption coordinator calls to verify that all other animals in the home are under vet care and utd on vaccinations, preventatives and are spayed/neutered. Home visits are done to verify fenced yard, shelter, etc. Our normal adoption fee is $50.00
