Burge Bird Rescue

I am a veterinarian with over 30 years of experience who treats birds exclusively, and I started Burge Bird Rescue in conjunction with my avian veterinary practice. Clients visiting our hospital are able to see adoptable birds thru a window in the exam room, as well as via a large window in the lobby. We rescue birds because most other shelters will not accept birds, but they are the third most commonly kept type of pet, and the need for rehoming is great, especially for the large parrots that can easily outlive their owners.

Meet Moxie & Mozart

Moxie is probably a mix of Dachshund and Miniature Schnauzer, and needs a new home because her owner had to move to assisted living.  She is a long haired spayed female around 5 years old and under 20 pounds, who does need occasional grooming to keep her coat looking good.  We have included a "before" picture when she hadn't been clipped in a while, but she is still cute even when she's shaggy.  Moxie is spunky and loves to play with her dog friend Mozart, the Border Collie.  We would love for them to be adopted together, but they can go separately.  You can see the two of them together in two of the pictures,  We refer to them as Big Floof and Little Floof.  They are currently in foster care, so you can call or text Tia at 563-495-8141 to arrange a time to meet them.

Adoption Process
Adoption application, phone interview, in person interview and meet birds, second visit with birds, if approved pay adoption fee, receive counseling on nutrition, household hazards, and all other aspects of bird care.
