Kuma is a handsome white German Shepherd. He weighs 82 lbs at 9 months and, while well loved, was just too much dog for his former caretakers to handle. Kuma is getting settled in at his foster home and this is what we've learned about him so far. The good: House trained Walks well on a leash and non reactive to people, other dogs, and bikes/scooters He was initially terrified of the cat but has since warmed up Knows sit and down Food motivated Great with the kids in his foster home (ages 5-10) Cuddly with no handling issues Fantastic for the vet! Things to work on: Jumpy when excited He will not go to the bathroom on leash. We have walked for hours without a single lift of his leg but he will go right away in the yard. For this reason, a fenced yard is recommended. Super velcro dog and will pace and whine if his favorite person is out of his sight Destructive if left to his own devices when home alone. He will enter the crate willingly but will bark and whine to voice his displeasure once crated. Not suitable for apartment/ townhome living for this reason. Kuma is up to date on vaccinations and heartworm tested (negative). The $400 adoption fee includes his neuter at BVSPCA when he is 12 to 18 months. For this reason, we'd prefer to keep him somewhat local. Breed experience a plus!
Adoption Process
Potential adopters must first fill out an adoption application. Once approved (vet refs checked, home visit etc) the applicant meets with the pet. If all goes well there is an adoption contract and adoption fee (varies per animal). All dogs/cats are neutered & vaccinated prior to adoption. Adopter must agree to return the pet to CompAnimals if for any reason during the pets lifetime the adoption doesn't work out.
