Burlington County Animal Alliance

Burlington County Animal Alliance is a private, independent, 501(3)(c) nonprofit animal advocacy group, that was founded in 1999 by Lorraine Schrieber and Barb Giano who have a love for animals. To date, we have around 60 members of BCAA. We focus primarily on rescue and adoption of shelter dogs and cats in high kill shelters and surrounding areas in New Jersey. Our main focus is to make the public aware of the numbers of homeless dogs and cats there are in shelters and to promote adoption of these animals. We advocate spaying and neutering of all companion animals to counteract the overpopulation of dogs and cats and to end the tragedy of euthanizing healthy, unwanted companion pets.

Meet Sweetheart

Meet Sweetheart! Sweetheart is a 1–2-year-old, 50 lb gentle giant who lives up to her name in every way. With a calm, affectionate nature and a love for lounging, she’s the perfect low-energy companion for someone seeking a laid-back best friend. Sweetheart is dog-friendly and easygoing. She tends to ignore other dogs unless they invite her to play—then she’s happy to join in! Even when barked at, she chooses peace and simply walks away. She hasn’t been around small kids, but she does great with teenagers. With people, she’s friendly and outgoing, soaking up all the pets and attention without being overwhelming. She doesn’t jump, lick, or act wild—just calmly enjoys your company. True to her couch potato status, she spends her days napping, shifting from one cool spot on the floor to another. She’s impeccably house-trained, never gets into the trash or onto furniture, and sleeps through the night without a sound. She’s never been crate-trained because she doesn’t need one—she’s trustworthy, clean, and respectful inside the home. Sweetheart knows basic commands like “sit” and “shake,” and she’s always happy to receive affection. In fact, she’ll often block your path just to make sure she gets some love on your way by. She’s incredibly smart—sometimes too smart—and has a funny habit of hiding when she doesn’t want to go outside. She loves laying her head on your chest, roaming the yard, and soaking up the sun. She’s a big fan of praise and being told how good and sweet she is.She’s still getting used to walking on a leash and prefers to roam freely. She does not enjoy being fenced in and will dig her way out, but she stays close to home and will usually be found lounging on the porch. She definitely needs to be monitored outside. Call her name, and she’ll come trotting over—no chase necessary. Her ideal home would be with someone who appreciates a low-key, affectionate dog with a big heart and a gentle soul. Wide-open spaces are a plus, and someone who’s around often to give her the attention she craves would be perfect. If you’re looking for a mellow, lovable companion to keep you company and steal your heart, Sweetheart might just be your perfect match. Apply at bcaaofnj.org
