AVAILABLE Jett Jay, ME “What a beautiful dog!” You’ll be hearing that a lot when you’ve got Jett by your side, because this girl is absolutely gorgeous! With her graceful build, glossy salt & pepper coat and unique markings, she is a truly stunning Australian Cattle Dog. Jett is a very typical Heeler, sweet with a pinch of spice, and is estimated to be between 1-2 years old. She weighs 43 pounds. Responsive, affectionate, and very velcro, Jett loves play time and a good cuddle with her people. She has a medium energy level, and while she’s always up for adventure, she’s happy to hang out on the couch. Jett walks nicely on a leash, constantly checking in, and she absolutely adores going for hikes. She’s a great co-pilot in the car, too! Jett is hearing impaired, but don’t let that scare you. She behaves like any other dog. Jett was in a shelter for weeks, and she was so well behaved and was such a favorite there, the shelter staff never realized she wasn’t hearing them! That’s how incredibly smart and attentive she is! Her temporary foster family also lived with Jett for several days before suspecting that she is mostly deaf. Jett does appear to hear some sounds, like clapping and whistling. The upside is, she sleeps like a log - gently snoring away through any amount of household chaos! Jett has learned to carefully watch the people and dogs around her, so she will pick up sign language in no time. We’ve been signing basics like “come”, “sit”, “walk”, “yes!” “good girl”, and her name, and she’s doing great. Jett is so eager to learn - she’s just waiting for an adopter to tap into that amazing, focused attentiveness! With a partner who is willing to bring positivity and an adventurous, can-do attitude, Jett has the potential to fly high! There are many awesome resources available for working with hearing impaired dogs, and we’re happy to point adopters in the right direction. Jett is house trained and crate trained, though she prefers to be loose in the house and does not get into mischief. She has done well with other dogs, and would be best paired with a calm, friendly dog who won’t jump her from behind. She would also thrive as an only dog. While in the shelter, she passed her cat test with flying colors. Jett is reported to love children, though I can’t confirm that. We will consider families with savvy kids over 12. Jett is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. She is being fostered in Maine. Breed experience is a definite plus!
