Location: Near Flemington, NJ Hey world, River here and I am ready to find my perfect forever home. I was saved and brought into rescue and a foster home by ACDRA.org, with nothing but my memories of the life that I once had. Those are my secrets and I have not shared them with anyone yet. I have been hanging with my foster family for a few months, learning to trust and doing a great job at being a good inside family dog. My foster mom says that I am nailing that whole thing really well. I am a sweet and gentle girl. I absolutely love gentle massages and belly rubs and snuggling close to my people that I have learned to trust. I do not need to follow everywhere, just some places, especially if you are headed for the car or outside for a walk/hike. I am “all in” if you are headed for an adventure. I love to ride in any vehicle, and I am a very good girl. It’s so fun to go anywhere with you. I will even ride in a crate in the car, if needed, since I love rides so much. I may protest a little verbally at being told that the bowl of food on your desk is not for me, but I am not a barker. It’s kind of funny when I scold my foster mom, I am learning the ways of becoming a dog again and a gentle, benevolent leader is my bestest dream person. I have learned to enjoy appropriate vegetables and fruits from my foster siblings and we use them as learning treats sometimes. I am a low key personality, not your typical Cattle Dog that needs tons of exercise to stay calm. But I do need to exercise daily. I had to have hip surgery a couple of months ago, as I showed up with a broken hip and ACDRA knew that I needed help becoming my best self with a really good surgeon to help me along. My foster peeps have been guiding me daily to help me get stronger and more confident with my new life on 4 healthy legs. I am still improving my strength in the leg that had surgery, with slow daily walks/hikes and lots of cool exercises. Speaking of the foster siblings here, I am looking forward to a soft, quiet landing with no other dogs or pets, no children and someone who can treat me like the princess that I am all day long. As I become the dog that I am meant to be, I prefer my special people to be there as much as possible to help me gain the confidence that I need to conquer my new world and become a best friend to my new peeps. I sleep well in a crate at nap time and can be trusted in a dog bed next to my foster mom at night. I am fully housebroken and have never had any accidents of any kind in my foster home. I let my foster mom clip my nails, brush me and brush my teeth. I have not given any issues to humans trying to help me and keep me looking and feeling my best. I like toys and I cry a tiny bit when my toys squeak. I am learning to catch my soft toys and my toys outside. Fun stuff. I have a decent prey drive, so a fenced yard is preferred and leashed walks are a must. I have recently learned to sit, climb an A-Frame, jump over the low bars, and go up and down the ramps to go over the bridge. My rehab from surgery is allowing me to do a lot of fun stuff. I am so enjoying chasing a ball again. I am shy around new humans and take a while to warm up. I will get closer to new humans if they are still and have a treat for me. Have I told you that I love treats? I love splashing in streams on hikes and walking up and down the mountain we hike on. I can also go up ramps for fun and I am working on jumping into the car by myself, but I am not quite there yet. I will need some help and patience while I learn that trick. Foster mom here: A quick synopsis of what River would like in her perfect forever home looks like this: Quiet home No Children and not lots of visitors Only pet at this point One or two adults with an at-home lifestyle – retired could be perfect, to find a great companion dog that loves to keep her people fit and loved Patient and gentle, with lots of walking/hiking and allowing River to be a best friend, to go places with you and gradually learn to be her best self River has been very low key in her foster home. She has had to rest a lot due to her hip surgery and this rest has been non-problematic for River She is still rehabbing her back leg and slow strengthening is the key to her future success Meet and greet (at least one) is essential for River’s comfort River is a 3-year-old, spayed female, microchipped and up to date on vaccines and monthly preventatives. She is being fostered near Flemington, NJ. Interested? Have any additional questions? Reach out to [email protected], or fill out an application here: www.acdra.org/adoption-application
