Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Sweet Tart

Sweet Tart is a guy with a name just as sugary as his personality, and he is more than ready to bring a burst of energy into your heart and home! This wiggly ray of sunshine is looking for some companionship that is able to appreciate his zest for life; full of basking in the sun, belly rubs, toys, and always keeping you smiling—and sufficiently snuggled. He is a constant source of entertainment, and the best adventure buddy you could ask for! Sweet Tart is a smooth and joyful walker on leash, and the immediate mayor of any street that he walks on—happy to meet adults, children, other dogs, bikers, people on scooters, trucks, and even buses with equal enthusiasm. At about ~two years old, this goofball absolutely loves playtime and attention, and will be happy to continue polishing his basic manners with his humans (keeping all four paws on the ground, getting into a house training routine, etc.). We know that with consistency, guidance, and exercise, he'll be anyone's best friend in no time! Sweet Tart has also done really well with being introduced to other dogs, and we aren't sure how he feels about cats, but imagine that he would do well with resident cats that are able to tolerate a playful and excitable addition at home. If you’re ready to add a little sweetness to your life, Sweet Tart is the candy-coated companion that you’ve been looking for! Age: ~2 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A-56997 Weight: 40 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. We get to know each dog as an individual and strive to make matches based on personality, not on breed label.) Location: Foster Care All of our dog meets are by appointment only; to get started, please complete the adoption application. To learn more about this dog, please contact us at [email protected] or 215-298-9680 ext. 16. Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, 2900 Grays Ferry Ave, Phila, PA 19146 (by appointment only).
