Meet Dakota

Isn't she lovely? Isn't she beautiful? Our gorgeous girl Dakota is ready for her forever home. Dakota is a 6 year old cavalier that is a recent breeder release. She is approximately 15 pounds, and absolutely loving life sprawled out on the couch all day. Nothing seems to make her happier than being able to run up on the couch and waste the day away watching TV and snoring away. Nothing except for maybe food. This girls does enjoy her meals. And with her large eyes, and little face, how can anyone deny her a treat? Dakota isn't just beauty, she has a personality to match. She will sleep right next to her foster mama at night, resting her chin and her mama's back. When they are on the couch together, Dakota is up as close as possible to her.    Dakota gets along great with everyone, from the youngest of kids (over 4) to the oldest of adults. When Dakota first meets new people, she is a little shy. She does tend to pancake close to the ground but she does not run away. And once she knows you, she is your constant companion. Dakota gets along well with dogs of all sizes. She is often found as part of a puppy pile. The other dogs can walk on her and Dakota does not seem to care. She is currently living with guinea pigs. Dakota has no interest in them at all. Based on her reaction, we can only assume she would be fine with cats. Dakota is crate trained, although she spends little to no time in it. She is usually kept behind a gated area, with access to a potty pad, while her foster family is away. Speaking of potty habits, Dakota is working hard on her house training. She knows what to do when she is outside, but it is up to you to take her out on a regular basis. Due to the fact that Dakota is not leash trained, a fenced-in yard will be required for her. Dakota will not even walk when a leash is placed on her. Her foster family is working on it but right not there is not much progress. We are hoping with more practice she will catch on.    Now for the bad news. Once Dakota arrived in rescue, it was quickly determined that she has a heart murmur. In fact she was diagnosed with a 6 out of 6 murmur. The good news is, she is showing no symptoms. She has been placed on traditional medications to treat murmurs and Dakota is responding well. It is a combination of Lasix, Vetmedin, and Enalapril. These are lifelong medications that cost between $80-100 a month. She will need a home that can ensure she gets the medical care she needs. One of her medications, Lasix, does cause her to be thirsty and therefore has to frequently urinate. Access to potty pads or outside throughout the day is required. Even with her heart murmur and using the proper medication, we were able to get her spayed and she was given a dental at that time as well. According to the vet, he removed many of the loose teeth and cleaned most of them; she will be all set for quite a while. If you think you are the right home for our girl, make sure you apply today. This little lady has endured so much in the past; all she would like is a comfy couch or a bed to relax in.  Dakota is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and tested neg. for heartworm.  She has also been given a dental. Her adoption fee is $250 due to her medical condition.
