Meet Soldier - ADOPTION PENDING!
SOLDIER HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING AND WILL BE GOING TO HIS FOREVER HOME ON OCT. 5TH. WE, THEREFORE, WILL NOT BE PROCESSING ANY OTHER APPLICATIONS FOR HIM. Soldier was rescued from a high-kill shelter along with Timmy (who has been adopted). Our best assessment (no guarantee) is that Solider is about 3-4 months old (born ~5/1/2024). Best guess, no guarantee is that Soldier is a Aussie (or Catahoula)/Pointer/Pittie mix? We expect (though cannot guarantee) that he will be a medium sized adult. So, what can we tell you about our Soldier. For starters, look in to those eyes and fall in love -- how handsome is our boy! Not only is he handsome, but he is also smart, energetic, graceful, curious and playful. He is social and loves people, and he shares food and toys with his foster brother. And this little smarty has already learned to respond and come when called by name. His basics of crate training and potty training are coming along great too. We anticipate him being energetic; so we are seeking an active family for him. And maybe after that walk, he can lounge with his people in the grass and day dream; or maybe an easy game of fetch could be played. Soldier is up for it all! The puppies are started on core vaccines, dewormed/de-flead, and microchipped! __________________________________________________________________________ **If you are interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY. Also, a follow-up email to [email protected] is strongly recommended. To pursue adoption, please register on www.safeatlast.net. (Click Register on the left-hand side of our homepage.) When you receive your password on your email account, please log back on to our website to complete the SAFE AT LAST on-line adoption application. (Click Forms/Application on the left-hand side of our homepage and select the Adoption Application.) Once we have your completed application, if we feel you are a good match, we will contact you by email. (So, please check your SPAM.) Our process is straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment. An adoption fee of $450, and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law), apply. YOU CANNOT MEET OUR RESCUE ANIMALS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT. WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE FULLY FILLED OUT SAFE AT LAST ON-LINE ADOPTION APPLICATION. Delay in submitting your application will put you behind other potentially suitable applicants. Ultimately, approved adopters will be required to complete an adoption in Schoharie/Albany County. Thank you for your interest.(Sorry we will not respond to generic "check the box," "Is he available," "Can you give me more information" inquiries.) NYS Rescue Registry No. RR 087
Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
