Meet Mickey
This group was rescued from a byb situation with 28 other dogs and an elderly caregiver who eventually found herself in an overwhelming situation that needed to be rectified. Despite the less than ideal situation, this little group is learning what it's like to live in stable situations, receive individual attention, and are doing very well coming out of their shells <3 Best guess, no guarantees, is that these kids are small breed mixes, possibly Lhasa Apso/Poodle/Shih Tzu? Meet MICKEYOh Mickey, he is a tall talker with a silky coat who can be a little reserved, doesn't he sound perfect. His favorite spot, right beside you on the couch. Just snuggle in and watch whatever you want, Hallmark to Hollywood Squares. And he thinks he can protect you from lions, tigers and bears and does alert you if he thinks they are near. So probably not an apartment or busy city life for him. How does he stay busy, playing chase of course. And at the end of the day, your pillow next to you is where he wants to be. Mickey is about 6 months old, and 10lbs, and currently being fostered with other dogs. Mickey is neutered, up-to-date on core vaccines, tested heartworm negative, dewormed, current on flea preventative, and can be microchipped! ____________________________________________________________________**If you are interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY. Also, a follow-up email to [email protected] is strongly recommended. To pursue adoption, please register on www.safeatlast.net. (Click Register on the left-hand side of our homepage.) When you receive your password on your email account, please log back on to our website to complete the SAFE AT LAST on-line adoption application. (Click Forms/Application on the left-hand side of our homepage and select the Adoption Application.) Once we have your completed application, if we feel you are a good match, we will contact you by email. (So, please check your SPAM.) Our process is straightforward but involves a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment. An adoption fee of $450 applies. YOU CANNOT MEET OUR RESCUE ANIMALS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT. WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE FULLY FILLED OUT SAFE AT LAST ON-LINE ADOPTION APPLICATION. Delay in submitting your application will put you behind other potentially suitable applicants. Ultimately, approved adopters will be required to complete an adoption in Schoharie/Albany County. Thank you for your interest.(Sorry, we will not respond to generic "check the box," "Is s/he available," "Can you give me more information" inquiries.) NYS Rescue Registry No. RR 087
Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
