Learn more about this event and sign up for 10am Early Entry see HERE Age: 3 years (as of 06/14/2022) Weight: 51.2 pounds (as of 10/20/2022) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Rost is a sweet, intelligent, outgoing guy who is eager to please his humans. In many ways, he is a typically lab-type dog: he loves nothing more than to just BE AROUND his humans. He has been out and about and friendly with all people that he has met - large and small - but only lived with adults so far. Rost does great in a car- crated or loose- and enjoys new people and places. His house training is excellent, and he keeps his crate clean, though he would prefer to be with you! He walks nicely on the leash and with no reactivity and would love to join you on an adventure just about anywhere, so he can get more practice. Rost's favorite past time is playing with toys/balls, swimming, walks, lap time and lay-by-your-feet time! Rost has lived with other dogs - big and small - and does best with those who are playful and have no anxiety, as he isn't the best at taking subtle cues from other dogs who want to be left alone. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for your dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever- important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Adopters should plan to spend plenty of time playing with your new dog, training him in basic commands, tricks, and skills like leash-, crate-, and house training, socializing them with new situations and dogs, and giving them plenty of free play and working play (like pack walks). A tired dog is a happy dog. Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28- day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Ehrlichiosis_(canine) Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
