Rescue Haven Foundation

The FernDog Rescue Foundation’s founder and director, Fernando Camacho, has been working with animal rescue groups and shelters for his entire career as a dog behavior consultant and trainer. These dedicated groups typically rely solely on volunteers that work tirelessly trying to save as many animals as they possibly can. Unfortunately, these groups often lack the funding, time and resources to better accomplish their work. One of the things that hit Fernando the hardest was realizing that although the dogs staying at shelters were physically cared for, their mental health deteriorated daily. With each day a dog spends in an animal shelter, his chances for adoption decline due to the psychological effects of the typical shelter environment. It’s not the animal shelter’s fault – they do the best they can with what they have. The problem is that they have so little available to them to make any kind of change, and that’s why The FernDog Rescue Foundation was formed. The mission of The FernDog Rescue Foundation is to help dogs at risk by providing foster homes that will nurture their physical and emotional health, help locate the ideal forever homes for them while providing support and training to help assure that their stay in their new homes is permanent. In addition we focus on developing programs to promote pet adoption services and raise public awareness by providing community education of the issues surrounding animal rescue. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Meet Tia

Tia's Woof Facts: 3 y/o, 28 lbs, Boston Terrier Mix Loves to be near her people Working on housetraining but is paper trained Working on leash and doing great!!Meet Tia, the snuggle enthusiast who believes that personal space is overrated. This little lady loves nothing more than curling up on the couch (preferably right next to you) or stealing your spot in bed at night. She’s polite enough to sleep in her crate, but honestly, the closer to you, the better! She’s like that friend who accidentally ends up in your personal bubble—but in the best way. Tia has a nice balance of energy, so she’s not demanding constant playtime. Instead, she’s the perfect coworking companion, calmly laying on her dog bed while you do your thing. Bonus points if you work from home—she’s basically a full-time people person. While she might be a little shy with new folks or situations, give her a few minutes and she’ll be your best friend, following you everywhere like your loyal shadow. Tia’s also a leash walking pro—well, for a dog who’s only just learned how to walk on one! She’s already a polite walker and doesn’t pull, which is impressive for a 3-year-old who’s just figuring out the whole “leash thing.” She’s a quick learner, having already mastered the stairs, collar wearing, and sitting politely for pets (treats help too, of course). She previously lived with ten other dogs, and while she gets along with everyone, she’s more of a people person but she also likes the company of other dogs . She’s completely uninterested in her foster home’s parrot and cockatiel—because really, who has time for birds when you could be cuddling a person.Tia would thrive in a home with: An experienced owner who can help her continue to blossom into the confident, loving dog she’s meant to be.   Someone who is home more often or a home with another dog is preferred but will be discussed on case by case basis. Tia came from a home with multiple dogs that lived in an apartment. They were all cared for but never got to experience the outside world. We rescued several of them and they are all in foster homes learning how to live their best life. Tia's an absolute gem and is ready to make your heart her new favorite resting spot. Oh, and did we mention she’s a perfect 28 lbs of cuddle-able goodness?
