Meet Reese
Reese is your typical sweet-faced lovable lab mix. This pup, at just 8 months is full of life. He gets along fine with kids and other canines. He has a short tricolor coat. Note the adorable black floppy ears. He has the warm brown lab eyes, and his coloring is perfectly symmetrical. He currently weighs about 44 pounds and will probably be in the large size range (50+ lbs.) when fully grown. Labs are known for their friendliness towards people. They have more than enough affection to go around for the whole family, too. Labs are intelligent and good-natured. They have plenty of energy as pups and usually like to stay active throughout their lives. As a mix he will probably have a lot of these lab qualities.Little is known about his previous life, other than that he was removed from a high kill shelter before coming into rescue. Puppies have lots of potential, and since he is smart and friendly, he can grow to be a wonderful companion in the right home. He does well with other dogs and also does well in the company of children. He has not had the opportunity to meet a cat since coming into rescue.Reese will need an owner who has had knowledge and/or experience working with puppies. Using the right guidance with consistency, repetition, and patience, will help him with the skills he needs to master. Cheerful praise and lots of treats will go a long way in helping him master those skills. Since we know little about him, it would be best to start at the beginning with house, crate, and leash training. He, like most pups will be a quick learner once routines are established. Before he can begin to spend time in a crate, he will need to have a bathroom routine (always after eating, playing, sleeping, and before bedtime). He will also need plenty of exercise and lots of attention. Having established a bathroom routine, been given lots of attention and exercise, Reese will be ready to be introduced to his new crate which must be a cozy, warm, and positive place. In the beginning he will explore it and use it for short periods of time. Eventually, the time can be increased based on his comfortableness with this second home. He may be able to handle up to 4 hours over time. Daily short walks (under thirty minutes) will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to him with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along his walk. Please note: He may not be a running companion until at least age one when his growth plate closes. He will also appreciate free time in the back yard or at a local dog park. Keeping his mind active with activities that provide physical and mental stimulation will prevent boredom. Could he be a future frisbee player? Tennis ball chaser?Interested?
