Meet Missy

Location: Mendham, NJ Welcome to the marvelous, mighty Missy! This beautiful brindle mix has endured a lot in her short life. Picked up as a stray in rural Georgia in early December, she was likely abandoned by an unethical breeder. Despite her fear, Missy’s sweetness shone through, and she desperately needed care. Fortunately, ACDRA stepped in to help. She tested positive for heartworm and was transported to New Jersey for proper medical treatment. After four months of intense care, Missy is now ready to find a loving family to give her the life she deserves. Her foster mom shares, "Missy is a love! She enjoys nothing more than curling up on the floor next to my feet. She tunes into her 'person' and wants to be wherever you are—definitely a Velcro dog! She gets along fine with our five other resident dogs and mostly ignores the two resident cats. At times, our other heeler puppy can get her riled up, but she is usually relaxed and happy to chew a bone on her bed. She is a cuddle bug and will sleep quietly through the night on a dog bed or, if allowed, at the foot of your bed. Missy came to work with me every day and was gentle with strangers, people, and dogs, who respected her space. She was crated when we couldn't interact with her directly, but she only tolerates a crate when another dog is with her. Missy is super smart and alert outside, so she was on a leash for corrections at all times in our yard. If loose, she will definitely keep your yard free of squirrels and unwanted rodents!  Missy was extremely fortunate to receive private lessons with a professional dog trainer, thanks to a generous donor. She is very smart and responds beautifully to training. As she is still a puppy, continued positive reinforcement and further work on her manners in new situations is recommended." Missy is being fostered in northern New Jersey. She is approximately one year old, spayed, and weighs 31 pounds. She is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines and is housebroken with proper supervision.
