Joyful Rescues, Inc.

Since our humble beginnings in December 2002, Joyful Rescues has grown into a 501(c)3 non-profit corporate team of volunteer animal lovers reaching out to help homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens in need of love, affection and forever homes. We are a no-kill shelter – meaning we never euthanize for space. Our primary goals here at Joyful Rescues are to re-home pets and save them from becoming homeless in the future, educate the public on pet care and spaying/neutering to control the pet overpopulation, to spay/neuter every pet before they leave us and spay/neuter as many pets, belonging to the public, as possible within our means.

Meet Princess

Princess, born around January 23, 2024, was rescued from a rural road in Puerto Rico. Princess weighs about 6 pounds.  A kind woman found her and tried to locate her home, but sadly, due to the overwhelming number of stray dogs on the island, lost dogs often go unclaimed. Thankfully, she was taken in and eventually found her way to Joyful Rescues.   Princess is a spirited eight-pound bundle of joy! She's incredibly playful and social but also content in her doggy condo while you're away. She's quite the entertainer, tossing her tennis balls and toys in the air for herself to catch! Princess is mostly house trained and will use the yard, but we also leave pads inside for her, as smaller dogs sometimes can't hold it as long as larger dogs.   She gets along with cats and most dogs her size and loves to run and play chase with them in the yard. Like so many small dogs she does have grade 2/3 luxating patellas and if the kneecap does slip a bit she just lifts that leg and goes on with life until it slips back into place.  However, she can be a bit bossy with larger dogs, barking and growling at them. Princess bonds very strongly with her people and can be overwhelmed at adoption events, as she prefers the company of her familiar human friends. Once she gets to know you, though, she's a friend for life!  Princess will need a patient groomer as she doesn't care for her feet being touched.   Despite her small size, Princess is a great walker and would also be happy in a dog purse. She recently tested positive for Heartworm, and we're confirming those results and proceeding with treatment. We're hopeful for a quick recovery due to her young age, as it takes 6-8 months for the larvae to become a worm. Heartworm is transmitted by an infected mosquito and isn't contagious to other dogs.  Thank you to Millersport Veterinary Hospital for taking such good care of her with an estimated cost of $1,000.00 we are thankful for any donations to help us help her.   Please join us in sending positive thoughts to Princess for a speedy recovery.   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link "Special Instructions to Seller" if you want to note a particular pet
