Pibbles & More Animal Rescue

Pibbles & More Animal Rescue, Inc.is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all volunteer, animal rescue organization based in New York - www.pmarinc.org To reduce pet overpopulation, particularly pit bulls, through spay/neuter intervention. Educating the public about responsible pet ownership through adoption as opposed to purchase.Pibbles & More Animal Rescue was started with the belief that no animal should die unwanted. After seeing the abundance of Pit bulls in shelters we decided to try to do something about it.In the beginning it was a small crew who banded together to form Pibbles & More Animal Rescue. We pull and re-home dogs from death row in the NY ACC shelters as well as from the Northeastern states where we have fosters, and from NC, SC and Georgia gassing shelters. We all have the hope that one day we will be a no kill nation. Until then, we rescue as many dogs as we can, get them medical treatment and put them into foster homes until permanent homes can be found. We take in healthy dogs, mange dogs ,heart-worm positive dogs and dogs who have been abused or have broken bones and open wounds. When we are done, only the scars remain, and the beautiful animals underneath shine through. The potential is there, for dogs to get a second chance at life, to know what love feels like. This is what we strive for every day. To find responsible loving owners for the bullies of the world.

Meet Kane

Kane is doing well with us, adjusting to all the changes that have happened in his short life. He came to us October 24th, from Queens Animal Care & Control, after being found abandoned and emaciated, weighing just 22 lbs. He and his housemate were in locked, stacked crates with no bottom tray—literally going to the bathroom over each other. It was a horrifying sight. It took him time to adjust to foster care, real meals, and water. He seemed to be a little obsessed with seeking water. He struggled to settle, most likely due to the traumatic life he had before coming to us. He was anxious but loving, loved attention, and enjoyed chewing on his toys. Over time, he was able to get used to a routine. Housebreaking was a challenge, but he learned some basics. It was a work in progress as he seems to be mentally on the go all the time. Kane had a potential home, but he seemed to revert to his previous behavior—hyper and forgetting all he had learned.  Kane is a good boy, just over 2 years old and now around 50 lbs. He is currently in a foster home near Binghamton, NY, and we are retraining him on what he was already taught. Kane is fully vetted and neutered; he just needs more time to adjust and understand that he won't be abandoned again. He will have regular meals and always have access to water. The change in environment seems to be causing him to panic, but that doesn't mean he isn’t adoptable—absolutely not! He just needs time to adjust and boundaries to help him feel safe. Kane is good with other dogs but can be a little pushy, so a low-key dog might be the best companion for him. He is good with cats, kids, and people—he is a friendly boy, perhaps too friendly. His only fault might be his anxiety, but we have to remember that each dog reacts differently to trauma. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, heart-worm tested, and treated if necessary.  Vet references and a home/family visit are required, and an adoption fee applies.  Transport options are available within our area of operation, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England.  Please note we do not adopt animals into Canada.  Visit www.pmarinc.org for more information, and to fill out an application.
