Meet GERTIE
Critter cavalry Rescue loves the unique and gentle devotion of the vanishing breed of Norwegian Elkhound. We are fervently looking for the PERFECT home for this 5 1/2 year old angel. Gertie is a purebred Norwegian Elkhound who spent her early years as a " breeder " dog and was rescued after the breeder decided to stop her breeding and downsize. This pretty girl is about 45lbs and is on the smaller size for the breed. She gets along with other dogs and with cats and loves to be petted and cuddled. She has stepped right up and learned some great leash skills. We must say that like some dog, she is very scared when she hears loud noises. Having lived in a bit of Norwegian elkhound isolation on a small breeding farm, she is learning how to be more comfortable in social settings and existing out in the world on neighborhood walks and car ride visits to places like PetSmart and Home Depot. Gertie is certainly learning the ropes and polishing her housebreaking skills. We are looking for someone that realizes she's not a perfect dog, but a perfect soul to love and nurture. She’s good natured, very happy, loves food and treats and accepts being brushed!! She also loves to dissect stuffed toys! She responds when called but we must suggest her best adoption setting would probably be best in a calm home with her people around her most of the time. We think it best that she have a confident canine companion. Her people need to be patient and give her time to come fully out of her shyness and be her happiest and most comfortable. Spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and Heartworm negative. If interested in this unique girl, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at [email protected]. PLEASE NOTE: Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.
